Delivering digital development in MENA

SOS Children’s Villages Federation has won the prestigious NetHope 2017 Device Challenge to help deliver digital learning to more than 38,000 young people across the Middle East and North Africa.

The generous grant of US$100,000 from NetHope – which supports some of the world’s top charities – will help us roll out innovative digital learning programmes in eight different countries. Young people will benefit from basic computer skills training and a digital library, as well as accessing e-learning materials they can use to help them get on in school.

These digital activities will take place in existing computer labs run by SOSUK's sister organisations in Morocco, Egypt, Benin and Côte d’Ivoire and in new labs created in the communities of SOS Children’s Villages Family Strengthening Programmes.

Thanks to the NetHope grant, we will be able to provide young people with the computer equipment they need to succeed in a region where youth unemployment is higher than 30%.

Young people enrolled in the Digital Learning for Digital Generation (DLDG) project will be able to learn in an interactive way through digital materials. They will also be able to investigate different ways of using technology to help develop their skills so they can access jobs – and ultimately increase their chances of integrating into the work force in future.
