Emergency crises are increasingly frequent and severe, and in many countries they occur as a result of political instability, widespread poverty, weak state institutions and the increasing effects of climate change.
Children are particularly vulnerable during humanitarian emergencies. In such situations, we put the protection of children and their families at the centre of our activities.
These extreme circumstances impact family and community life, putting children at an increased risk of malnutrition, disease, exploitation and long-term trauma.
We specialise in protection and care of children, including care for unaccompanied and separated children, interim care centres for children, family reunification, child friendly spaces, and psychological and social support.
SOS Children’s Villages' emergency programmes are guided by the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence. Learn more about our approach in our
