Somalia: Bombing in Mogadishu kills hundreds

A horrific bombing in the centre of Mogadishu close to SOS Children’s Villages offices has left more than 300 people dead and hundreds more injured or missing.

SOS Children’s Villages office in Sudan was damaged in the blast and an SOS beneficiary, who works as an intern in the office, suffered injuries. The explosion shattered windows in our offices and the top floor of the building was heavily damaged. An SOS Children’s Villages vehicle also suffered damages.

Dereje Wordofa, International Director for the Eastern and Southern Africa region of SOS Children’s Villages, said: “It is tragic that such atrocities still continue to create havoc on innocent communities despite the hope for peace and stability in the country. We pass on our deepest condolences to the families affected by the attack. We are following up closely on the extent of the impact on our programmes on the ground and providing support for the team.”

We will continue to keep you updated on the status of our programmes and our emergency efforts in Somalia.
