Mexico has been hit by a powerful earthquake, killing more than 200 people and leaving hundreds more wounded or missing. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake caused catastrophic infrastructure damage in Mexico City and the surrounding states of Puebla and Morelos – causing minor damage at one of SOS Children's Villages in Puebla.
The country is still reeling from an 8.1 magnitude tremor that left 100 people dead just two weeks ago.
Our sister organisations closest to the epicentre of the latest earthquake have confirmed all the children and families in our Village and Family Strengthening Programmes are safe and unharmed – with only minor damage sustained to our buildings.
A safety review of all facilities and infrastructure in Tehuacán, Puebla is being carried out at this moment. The situation in the country remains delicate, especially in Mexico City. Our sister agencies are working around the clock to make sure help reaches those who need it most.
